WinStep Xtreme theme progress report
April 20, 2008 2AM
I've never used my own site to provide a progress report of a theme I'm working on but this one is really coming along nicely. I felt I had to share
And if I can't promote my own work on my own web site, where can I do it!?!
If you haven't read my previous journal entry yet, do so now. It will give you a better understanding of what I'm about to talk about
And for another first, this journal entry has a screenshot!
As you can see from the screenshot above, the theme is well underway. I've developed four modules so far—Weather, Trash, Wanda and E-mail. The weather module is the only module that doesn't use an IconGalore icon. But the IconGalore icons in the other modules match the default weather icons provided by WinStep Xtreme brilliantly. I really like the style that these icons have. I've always loved the weather icons in WinStep Xtreme and wished I had a way of making a theme that would compliment those icons. Thanks to the icons from IconGalore I am now doing that.
The fact that the IconGalore icons are provided in varied sizes and formats has been incredibly helpful too. For example, I managed to use varied sizes of icons in the Trash module to create a full trash bin. When there is nothing in the trash the module uses the default trash icon that comes with the Conceptual Icons icon set. The E-mail module also alternates between two IconGalore icons depending on if you have mail or not. I was able to find two matching icons at IconGalore which meant I didn't have to do any icon editing at all on this module. That helps a lot
The icon sets at IconGalore have a good number of matching icons in the sets I've seen. I could have easily used any of the icons in their Email Applications Icons set.
There are more modules to come of course and then the creation of the NextSTART elements will follow. I'm already wondering how I'll use the smaller icons from IconGalore in that
But I'm sure I won't have any problems using the smaller icons in NextSTART. They're very detailed, have great style and nice use of colour. If there were more ways to use them in a WinStep Xtreme theme I would. Building themes based on icon sets is a trend I could easily get used to.
Hopefully the theme will be completed some time soon. Stay tuned to see how it ends up.
